Control Your Senses

Difference between a King and a Robber

One day Ramesh took his son Amit who was only five years old for a walk to the park. On the way to the park there was some commotion in the street. Amit asked, “Father who are those people?”

Ramesh answered, “Amit, that man in the center is a robber and the police have surrounded him.”

As they continued their walk to the park, a big procession was on its way and lots of people had gathered to observe. Once more Amit asked his father, “Father who are those people?”

His father replied, “Amit, the person in the center is the King and the police are surrounding him.”

Amit asked his father, “Father, what is the difference between the robber and the King? Both persons are surrounded by the police?”

Amit's father Ramesh replied, “Son, the robber is under the control of the police. The police will take him to prison. The King controls the police and they will obey his orders. They will protect the King.”

Inner Meaning of the Story :

I have five senses and I must be like the king and control my senses.

I should not be like the robber and be carried away by my senses.

Do you remember, what are your five senses?

Do you remember what lessons Datta learnt from the fish, the moth, the deer and the elephant?

 LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE STORY

       i.        The Robber was surrounded by the police and the King was surrounded by the police.

ii.        The robber was under the control of the police and had to carry out their orders.

iii.        The King was in charge of the police and they had to obey the King.

iv.        I have 5 senses (Sight, taste, hearing, smell and touch). These 5 senses are like the police.

I must be like the King  and keep my 5 senses under my control.

If I allow my 5 senses to control me, I will be like the robber, a prisoner to my senses.

Do you want to be a King or a Robber (Prisoner)?
