SIMPLE Physical Exercises to Promote a Healthy Life.
You can familiarize yourself with the exercise routine through daily practice over a two week period.

Sound is very important and creates vibrations that affect our moods, motivates us and can create either positive or negative changes in individuals and groups.

There are SEED SOUNDS that were known to ancient Indian sages. They understood and used these seed sounds for Positive Development of students.

Here are the seed sounds of the Hanuman mantra. Hanuman represents the energy which promotes intelligence, strength and success of a person. It is also a mantra for the Universal protection mantra. The sounds can be chanted for 5 to 10 minutes prior to studies and after studies.

OM NAMO HANUMATE NAMAHA

The five faces of Hanuman represent the five elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space).

The mantra is a reminder that we must protect the five elements that comprise the planet Earth.

Our body is also made up of the five elements. We must balance the five elements in the body. This can be done using the respective mudra (hand gestures) related to the element and performing deep breathing exercise.

See yoga exercise routines on related pages showing earth, water, fire, air and ether (space) mudras.

Detachment from Sorrows

Satyam Learns about Family Situations

(adopted from Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Part I)

Satyam and his sister Varalakshmi were staying at the home of their elder brother Nanjundayya, his wife and grandparents.

Previously, Satyam and Varalakshmi would stay with their Aunt Venkamma. Varalakshmi would only do studies, learn to recite prayers and tease Satyam. Now she had to adjust and learn to do household chores at Nanjudayya’s home. Satyam would stay at another house to attend school. He would visit Varalakshmi once a week.

Satyam could see that Varalakshmi was undergoing a lot of hardship as she was made to do the household chores.

Grandmother Ambamma, “What should our girl not learn to do the household chores properly? How will she manage her home when she gets married and goes with her husband?”

Varalakshmi would say to her father and Satyam when they visited, “The way of doing things here is different that is all, little by little I will adjust.”

One day Satyam returned home from school, a wristwatch and some rings were missing. “What Satyam I was going to gift the watch to you, why were you hasty?” Nanjundayya said accusingly.

Ambamma scolded Satyam and his ancestors, “Your father and his father’s father must have been on the wrong path. You are the result of their bad deeds. Your father himself plays self-righteous but leaves you here, a dull boy who is backward in studies.”

Varalakshmi was crying. Satyam bent his head and left. Everyone thought Satyam had bent his head in shame. However, he was thinking if there was any sign of hatred in his mind and heart after he was bitterly scolded and accused of theft. He did not feel any hatred or anger in his mind or heart even under the bad circumstances at home.

Four days later when Ambamma was not at home, Varalakshmi searched the house and found the box with the watch and rings amongst Ambamma’s possessions. She gave it to Nanjundayya. He felt very badly but Ambamma had brought him up and was now elderly, what could he say to her? How could he face Satyam after accusing him wrongfully?

Satyam tried to console Nanjundayya, “What is done is done, who is to blame? Nothing is missing, who was the culprit? If blame is to come because of some previous bad action I had done then, even without a cause the blame will come. Leave it alone, don’t worry.”

Satyam felt badly that his elder brother was suffering because of their presence in the home. Satyam soon gave up thoughts of what had happened and slept soundly.

One day while cleaning a scorpion stung Varalakshmi. She started to weep loudly, “Oh something has stung my hand, it is so painful.”

Ambamma retorted, “This is one of your tricks, so you can escape from doing your chores!”

Varalakshmi bore the pain and continued with the housework. Satyam came at that time. On seeing Satyam, she started to cry in pain.

Satyam exclaimed, “You are treating my sister like a servant and a slave. You are trying to kill her! We won’t stay here a moment longer.”

Nanjundayya had not seen his brother like this before. He said, “Ok let it be, we will discuss the matter when father comes.” He thus calmed the situation by postponing the matter.

Satyam said, “Ok we will decide when father comes. Here take this!” He gave some medicine to Varalakshmi and stormed out of the house.

Varalakshmi took the medicine given and exclaimed in surprise, “Oh the pain has subsided so quickly with the medicine!”

Ambamma scolded, “As soon as her brother has come and gone the pain of the scorpion has gone away. See how she was pretending!”

When their father arrived a few days later, Satyam discussed the matter and told him they could not stay there any longer. His father advised, “It is natural for human beings to quarrel with each other. Leave it alone.”

After a few weeks Satyam and Varalakshmi went to stay at their maternal father’s (Linganna) place. There Varalakshmi became attached to her aunt Parvatamma and Satyam had to take up new responsibilities of completing his studies and work to help maintain the household.

During the days of household life, Satyam found that the following activities helped him to easily discard thoughts of the quarrels at home and lead a happy life;

1.    Decorating the images of God,

2.    Performing worship to God,

3.    Chanting of God’s name,

4.    Organizing and engaging in plays from the holy scriptures and

5.    Serving others.

 LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE STORY

i.      I must be respectful to elders and try and adjust to situations at home. If I stay at a relatives or a friend's home I must also adjust to their lifestyle.

ii.   I must ask for parents’ and or elder's guidance when I encounter troubles and I am disturbed..

iii.  I should not develop anger and hatred towards family members due to disagreements..

iv.  If negative situations arise, I must try and find out the cause of the situation. Only if the cause of a problem is known then it can be resolved.

v.   I can maintain a happy and balanced mind like Satyam by always engaging in positive thoughts and action.
