Once Dattatreya was sitting in meditation when King Yadu passed by and saw this young person sitting unaffected, happy and calm.

King Yadu approached Dattatreya and humbly asked, “ How do you remain unaffected by troubles, happy and calm? Why do you always seem to be floating in bliss (happiness)? What has made this possible?”

Dattatreya replied, “O King Yadu I have observed the world closely and obtained a little knowledge from a number of gurus (teachers). Listen carefully! I will tell you what I have learnt.”

Datta said, “O King Yadu, listen carefully to what I learnt from WATER.

“Oh King, I learn from water that (i) I must serve everyone. (ii) I must give up impurties and have a pure mind and heart and (iii) I must speak gentle and sweet words. I must be (iv) full of love for everyone then I can purify others by mere sight, touch or remembering the person. Water flows from the highest places seeking the lowest places. I learnt from water that (v) I must be humble and give up pride.

Lesson learned from Water

Water is pure and can purify other things.

I must have a pure heart, speak sweet words and be full of love for everyone. Then I can purify others by mere sight, touch or remembering the person.

Water does not only serve good persons but serves everyone equally.
