WITH ONE POINTED CONCENTRATION ALL WORKS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED

Sound is very important and creates vibrations that affect our moods, motivates us and can create either positive or negative changes in individuals and groups. These seeds sounds are known as Mantra (man is from the root meaning sound; tra means that which protects or defends).

There are SEED SOUNDS that were known to ancient Indian sages. They understood and used these seed sounds for Positive Development of the society.

The name Sri Raama is a treasure house of the following virtues;

  • He is valorous, knowledgeable, and replete with noble or virtuous qualities.

  • He is virtuous but does not recollect His greatness and is not egoistic. He treats everyone equally.

  • He has the complete knowledge of righteousness and unrighteousness. He walks the right path and leads others to follow the path,

  • He does not forget help he receives, no matter how small. His feelings of gratitude towards the person remain the same at all times.

  • He is eternally truthful in speech. Even if the worst problem lands on his head, he will not utter a lie. He believes everything depends on truthfulness.

  • He possesses an unflinching or unwavering mind and firm determination. He will not change his mind mid-way but stick to his good intentions till the very end.

Chanting the sacred name of Sri Raama enhances a person character, so he/she becomes Godlike.

Benefits of Chanting the Name of God

THE MAN AND THE DEVIL

(taken from an excerpt of Ramdas Speaks Volume II - Swami Ramdas)

Swami Ramdas addressed questions on destroying the ego-sense which makes me think I am separate from God (the Supreme Consciousness), this is my body, I am doing these actions and which causes me to desire good and bad things.

Ramdas will tell you a story.

A man wanted to propitiate a devil in order to make it do whatever he wanted. So he did the necessary Sadhana (penance, chanting of prayers, observing fasts etc.) in order to fulfill that wish. In the end by the power of his sadhana he was able to summon the devil before him.

The devil said, "I will obey your commands but on one condition, if at any time you do not give me work I will devour you up! You must keep me busy all the twenty four hours."

The man agreed to the devil's condition. He immediately gave an order for a palace to be built. To his great wonder, the palace was built in no time. Then he gave the order to for a long road to be made ready. That work was also executed very soon. Next minute the devil was standing before him asking for work. He had no time to think. He gave an order to build a big town. It was ready in ten minutes. He gave another order to build a still bigger town. That was got ready in twenty minutes.

Now the man was perplexed and afraid. He did not know what order to give. If he did not give any work, he would be swallowed by the devil.

He hastened to a holy man, told him his predicament and asked for advice.

The holy man suggested, "You should ask that devil to get a bamboo pole, plant it in the ground and ask the devil to climb it up and down until further orders."

The man followed the holy man's instruction. The devil was bound to carry out the order. This meant no rest whatever for the devil. The devil got disgusted and ran away.

Now in your case, Raama mantra (Name of God) is the pole and the ego-sense is the devil that teases you. Ask him to go up and down the pole and he will soon get disgusted and run away.

The Name of God** is given to you to make the ego disappear. The ego must be made to disappear by his own effort. The principle of repeating the Name of God lies in this. As you continue repeating the Name the ego-sense becomes thinner and thinner and ultimately disappears. Then you realize your are the All Pervading Spirit.

If you try to bring out by the power of the Name the source of sweetness and joy hidden within you, then, naturally, all that is undivine in you will disappear and all that is divine in you will manifest itself as love, joy and power.

**Ramdas was made to continuously chant the Name of God, Jai Raam, Shree Raam, Jai Jai Raama

According to the Indian Sages they say the ego-sense does not exist at all. God only exists. Ego-sense is responsible for the feeling that we are separate from God, though we really are not. When this ignorance goes then we shall know what we are in reality. This is not a new attainment. It is only the regaining of the knowledge of what we are. Something is in us which we have forgotten, but once we remember it and discover it, we know it was with us even before.

So, our union and oneness with God is eternally there.

Ignorance consists in man not knowing what he is.

One example is often given of what happens in the ordinary course of our lives. A normally happy person suddenly feels unhappy when a particle of dust falls into his eyes. He has irritation and pain and therefore feels very uncomfortable. He goes to the doctor and get the particle of dust remove. Now he says he is happy.

Is it a new happiness that he gets? No he regains only that which he had lost. Before the dust fell in his eye he was happy. The dust caused temporary unhappiness and when it was removed he regained that happiness. This is how the saints of India teach. It is not that you attain anything new when you realize God. You have been God, you are God and you will be God.  You have just forgotten that you are God temporarily.

The easiest method by which you can attain union with God is through constant repetition or chanting of His Name. By the chanting of the name of God with All Faith and Devotion, your mind gets thoroughly purified and the in-dwelling God reveals Himself in your heart in all His glory and splendour, and the peace that is hidden within you becomes manifest in all your actions - rather fills your entire mental and physical being.

Open your heart and fill it with the light of God for half an hour (30 minutes) a day.

If you cannot find half an hour then remember God for fifteen (15) minutes.

Once we realize our oneness with God, we are imbued with the power of God. Activity will go on with the power of God. We know now it is He who makes us do everything. When we are ignorant, we think we are doing everything and this is the reason we act wrongly.

God and His Name are not different. As the sun and its light are not different from each other. The moment you take His Name you feel His presence within you.

Once you go on repeating the Name you will find that the Name tastes sweeter and sweeter. Nay it is sweeter than nectar. Once you taste the sweetness of the Name, you will never give it up.

The Name may be short, but the Power is Great.
